Client Summary Tool: Overview

GO DIRECT TO: Client Summary Tool

It is useful to understand the person with brain injury including:

  • Their strengths
  • Their difficulties; and
  • Strategies for dealing with their difficulties.

Clinicians can use this tool to generate client summary information.

The summary information can be downloaded as a Word document.

The Client Summary TOOL

The Client Summary Tool is a way of clinicians generating summary information by:

  • Systematically identifying strengths and difficulties of the person with the brain injury
  • Identifying what these strengths and difficulties mean, i.e. their definitions
  • Identifying strategies for dealing with the difficulties; and
  • Putting the information in a Word document.

Some examples of skills (which can be strengths or difficulties), their definitions and strategies for dealing with difficulties in relation to these skills are:

Skills

Definitions

Strategies

General
concentration

Ability to focus on the relevant aspects of the task at hand

Minimise distractions. Guide the person back to task, present verbal information one point at a time

Plan/organise

Set goals, plan appropriate steps and organisational skills, including starting and stopping actions appropriately

Divide large assignments into smaller steps; use to-do lists; follow a set routine; hold weekly planning meetings, use picture diagrams of problem solving techniques
